🏡 1. Overview of Saturday’s Training

On 29 November 2025, Awhina Whakatau Trust delivered the first session of our “Stay Strong, Move Smart – Safe Living & Housing Confidence” programme.

The session featured interactive learning, real property demonstrations, and direct community engagement. Families reported feeling more confident and connected through hands-on learning and open discussion.

📊 2. What We Did This Week

✔ 1. Questionnaire Survey

Participants completed a short survey to help us understand their housing challenges, including:

  • Issues with repairs

  • Winter moisture and mould

  • Communication barriers

  • House rules and neighbourhood expectations

This feedback will guide the content of the next three sessions.

✔ 2. On-site Property Walkthrough & Demonstration

We visited an actual property to provide practical training on:

  • Identifying ventilation needs

  • Recognising mould risks

  • How to store rubbish correctly

  • Understanding what “clean and tidy” looks like for inspections

  • How to check basic house features (smoke alarms, extractor fans, heating)

Families said this was one of the most helpful parts of the day.
