After a successful year thus far, firstly with Alan Bennett’s ‘Talking Heads’, followed by ‘The Diary Of Anne Frank’ directed by Simon Prast, Waiheke Theatre Company are delighted to bring you the stage adaptation of the 1940s iconic James Stewart movie, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’.
The play is a heart-warming saga about George Bailey, the every-man from the small town of Bedford Falls, whose dreams of escape and adventure have been repeatedly quashed by the notion of family obligation and civic duty.
It is Christmas Eve, and George’s guardian angel Clarence descends to save him from despair, and reminds him (by showing him what the world would have been like had he never been born) that his has indeed, been after all, a wonderful life.
This is a charming family focused Christmas story for everyone, young and old alike. In fact, the movie was voted ‘The best loved Christmas movie of all time.
This sparkling and magical stage adaption is being directed by Stephanie Wilkin who last year directed the hugely successful ‘A Christmas Carol’ and in previous years plays including, Roald Dahl’s “The Witches’, ‘The Dresser’ and ‘The Vicar of Dibley’.
The play opens with a ‘Gala Opening night’ on Thursday 29th November; this is a red carpet affair including a complimentary drink on arrival.
The season runs over three weeks and closes on Saturday 15th December.

The Frank Burkitt Band are delighted to be heading to Waiheke Island to play as part of their 30 date ‘Lost but Alive’ NZ Tour.
Frank is a story teller, songwriter, singer and guitarist. In that order. His rambling anecdotes aim to give the audience more of a connection with his songs. A folk songwriter at his core, American roots music with hints of jazz, blues and swing very much shape his music. The band’s set can get the room’s foot tapping, but also contains more poignant songs that audiences can really invest in.
2019 will see The Frank Burkitt Band embark on the longest tour of their lives. From January – June, they intend to take their music all around New Zealand, Australia and the UK. Yes, they are quite ambitious and slightly unhinged. They will be releasing a new live EP to coincide with their touring adventures.
You can check out the band here: www.frankburkitt.co.nz/videos.

Taking the interests of each participant into account we will work over one week to bring together a fun filled performance showcasing individual & group talents that they have learnt that week. We know everyone is unique and we welcome diversity in attitude and ability!
Each session begins with warms ups & team building, offers a chance to practice on a variety of circus tools and adapts visual design, technical and storytelling skills to create the end of week show.
This is a practical, creative and physical workshop, using improvisation to bring out the best in personality and performance.
“Another world is possible – so fill your life with whatever you want to be – but be warned with hard work comes the freedom to fly. And once you fly there’s no going back!”
This is sponsored by the generosity of Waiheke Rotary – thank you.
